Coaching Transitions, led by Corey Matthews

A senior leader with over 15 years of experience, Corey has operated in the most complex institutions in Los Angeles.

When the Los Angeles Wildfires hit, Corey led a corporate-led crisis response to support 3,000+ impacted families. When COVID-19 struck, nearly 5,000 Angelenos depended on community-based strategies he designed and executed. High stakes aren't a hypothetical for him.

 Corey Matthews

Corey Matthews is the founder of Coaching Transitions LLC, where he works with leadership teams to define direction, make decisions, and move forward on complex, high-stakes work. His approach is shaped by more than 15 years of leadership experience across corporate, nonprofit, and public sector systems along with his personal journey that has consistently placed him at the intersection of different worlds. From growing up in Los Angeles and attending school across vastly different communities, to leading work that spans community organizations, government partners, and global institutions, Corey has developed a deep ability to understand how people think, where perspectives diverge, and where mutual interest lies.

This perspective has carried through his professional work. As Vice President of Global Philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase, Chief Operating Officer at Community Coalition, and Vice President at LeadersUp, Corey has led multimillion-dollar strategies, engaged diverse stakeholders, and driven initiatives across housing, workforce development, and community impact. Across each role, his work has centered on helping people navigate complexity, bridge differences, and move forward with clarity and purpose.

At Coaching Transitions, Corey brings that same approach to leadership teams by creating the structure and focus needed to work through competing priorities and execute on what matters most.

Corey has served as:

  • Chief Strategy Officer at the Liberty Hill Foundation

Strengthens alignment and integration across the Foundation’s strategy and external engagement with civic, philanthropic, and business stakeholders working to address regional issues.

  • Vice President, Global Philanthropy at JPMorganChase

Led philanthropic strategy across multimillion-dollar portfolios, partnering across business, government, and community stakeholders to advance inclusive economic growth in communities across Los Angeles.

  • Chief Operating Officer at Community Coalition

Spearheaded human capital transformation initiatives and operational systems for a leading Los Angeles nonprofit situated at the intersection of community and government.

  • Vice President, National at LeadersUp

Designed national programs and partnerships to expand workforce and economic opportunity, collaborating with private sector employers, research partners, and community  based organizations to deliver impact at scale.

“He understands people, systems, and decisions: and can help us move.”

This work is structured, direct, and outcome-driven. It centers on defining direction, working through critical decisions, and ensuring execution—so progress continues beyond the conversation.

Corey has sat at every table and knows how to get institutions moving.

He is the operational advisor that catalyzes the work and keeps it from stalling.
